Peptide CME can count toward NP recertification when the activity is accredited, relevant to practice, and clearly identifies its pharmacology hours. Here is how ANCC and AANPCB requirements apply.

Peptide CME can count toward nurse practitioner recertification when the activity comes from an accepted accredited provider, relates to the NP's role or population, and documents its pharmacology content. Peptavo carries 20 ANCC contact hours, including 16 hours identified as pharmacotherapeutic content, so an NP may use those hours toward the continuing education and pharmacology requirements that apply to ANCC or AANPCB renewal.
Clinicians often use CME as a general term for continuing education, but the certificate designation matters. Physicians usually claim AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Nurses and nurse practitioners generally claim ANCC nursing continuing professional development contact hours. Physician assistants claim AAPA Category 1 CME, while pharmacists use ACPE credit.
That difference does not make one form of credit more legitimate than another. It identifies which accrediting system issued the credit and how the learner should report it. A peptide course advertised only as “CME” should show the provider, the profession-specific designation, the number of hours, the activity dates, and whether any hours are pharmacology.
Peptavo's accreditation page lists each designation and links to the formal activity detail page from Pinnacle Conference, LLC. Pinnacle is jointly accredited by ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
ANCC requires nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists to complete 75 continuing education contact hours during their five-year certification period. At least 25 of those 75 hours must be advanced pharmacology or pharmacotherapeutic education. The hours must be relevant to the certificant's role, population, or practice setting.
Peptavo's 20 ANCC contact hours can contribute to the 75-hour total. The 16 hours identified as pharmacotherapeutic content can contribute to the 25-hour pharmacology requirement. An NP would still need at least nine additional qualifying pharmacology hours and enough other accepted education to reach the full ANCC requirement.
ANCC also requires completion of one professional development category in addition to the continuing education hours. A peptide CME activity does not replace that separate requirement.
AANPCB's continuing education route requires 100 advanced-practice contact hours during the current five-year certification period, including at least 25 advanced pharmacology hours. It also requires 1,000 NP practice hours and a current active professional nursing license.
AANPCB says accepted continuing education must be relevant to the NP's population focus and role and must come from an accredited organization, including ANCC or another approved provider. Because Peptavo's nursing hours are issued through a jointly accredited provider with ANCC accreditation, the 20 contact hours and identified pharmacology content may be reported within those requirements.
The course does not satisfy the practice-hour requirement, replace state licensure requirements, or automatically cover any state-mandated topic. Each learner remains responsible for confirming the rules that apply to the learner's certification and license.
| Renewal measure | ANCC | AANPCB | Peptavo contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renewal cycle | Five years | Five years | Complete within your active cycle |
| Total continuing education | 75 contact hours | 100 advanced-practice contact hours | Up to 20 ANCC contact hours |
| Pharmacology requirement | 25 hours within the total | 25 hours within the total | 16 pharmacotherapeutic hours within the 20 |
| Practice hours | Separate professional development rules apply | 1,000 NP practice hours | Does not replace practice requirements |
| Relevance test | Role, population, or setting | NP role and population focus | Learner confirms relevance before claiming |
Peptavo is an enduring, on-demand activity running from August 24, 2026 through August 24, 2029. Credit applies to the ten accredited modules. The two bonus modules are part of the course experience but are not additional accredited hours.
The activity covers peptide mechanisms, prescribing decisions, contraindications, dosing, monitoring, sourcing, regulation, and patient cases. That content is designed for clinicians who evaluate or manage peptide therapy. NPs should claim only the portion completed and relevant to their practice.
The most common reporting mistake is adding the total contact hours and the pharmacology hours together. A course with 20 total hours and 16 pharmacology hours does not produce 36 hours.
ANCC instructs APRNs who enter hours manually to separate pharmacotherapeutic hours from the remaining contact hours so the same time is not counted twice. Applied to this activity, the learner's documentation should show 20 total hours, of which 16 are pharmacotherapeutic. Follow the current renewal portal's fields and instructions rather than entering 20 general hours plus 16 more.
Keep the completion certificate and the activity detail page together. The certificate documents completion and the total designation. The activity detail page documents the provider, activity dates, audience, learning objectives, and pharmacotherapeutic-content statement. If a renewal reviewer asks how the hours were classified, those two records answer the question.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Named accredited provider | “CME available” is not the same as designated credit |
| Profession-specific credit | NPs need an accepted nursing or advanced-practice pathway |
| Exact pharmacology allocation | General contact hours do not automatically become pharmacology hours |
| Current activity dates | Credit must be earned while the activity and your renewal cycle are active |
| Completion requirements | Watching videos may not be enough without assessments and an evaluation |
| Certificate and activity statement | Both may be needed if the hours are audited |
| State-specific requirements | Boards may require separate subjects such as controlled substances |
Be cautious when a peptide certification advertises pending credit, optional credit sold as an add-on, or a certificate of completion without identifying an accredited provider. A private peptide certification and accredited continuing education are different products. A program can offer one, both, or neither.
Complete modules 1 through 10 and their assessments, then submit the Pinnacle post-activity evaluation. Pinnacle issues the profession-specific certificate after the evaluation. Keep that certificate, the activity detail page, and your completion date in your renewal file.
Nurse practitioners and registered nurses can review the full peptide course for nurses and NPs. Physicians, PAs, pharmacists, dentists, and athletic trainers should use the designation listed for their profession on the accreditation page.
It can. ANCC requires accepted, relevant continuing education and 25 pharmacology hours for NP renewal. Peptavo offers 20 ANCC contact hours, including 16 identified pharmacotherapeutic hours. Those 16 are included within the 20 total hours.
It can when the education is relevant to the NP's role and comes from an accepted accredited provider. AANPCB requires 100 advanced-practice contact hours, including 25 pharmacology hours, plus 1,000 practice hours and active licensure.
No. Pharmacology hours are a subset of the total. Sixteen pharmacology hours within a 20-hour course still equal 20 total hours.
No. Certification is a private credential showing completion of a program. CME or nursing contact hours are continuing education credit issued under an accrediting framework. A course may provide both, but one does not imply the other.
ANCC-accredited contact hours are widely accepted, but each state board controls nursing-license renewal and may impose its own topic requirements. Check the board's current rules before relying on any activity for a specific mandate.
